If you are ever in Marietta, Georgia I suggest you look up the historic Marietta Square and stop by for a stroll. This charming little piece of history that sits right inside a bustling, modern city is the perfect place to get away and relax for a while. You will find some cute shops, art galleries, two beautifully kept theaters, some neat restaurants and bars, and a gorgeous square filled with flowers and trees and benches and a bubbling fountain. It is just as amazing as it sounds, I promise!
Every Saturday- April through November, there is a farmers market on the square. Offering fresh herbs, eggs, milk, local made foods, plants, and crafts…it is a magical way to spend a Saturday morning. People fill the park in the middle of the square, people are strolling the streets, exploring antique stores and British stores, eating breakfast or brunch in little bistros and the Australian bakery, and I’ll bet there are birds chirping in harmony while all of this goes on.
After a nice stroll on the square there is a great place to grab a cup of coffee (like you didn’t see that coming 😀 ). Cool Beans Coffee Roasters is a hip little place; great for getting coffee, a snack and even some local art. Lately I have seen lots of local coffee shops beginning to roast their own coffee. Cool Beans was started by a guy who tried countless cups of coffee from all over the world and discovered that the best coffee was roasted in-house …and so he bought a local coffee shop and hasn’t looked back since. Well I’m glad he did so because Cool Beans is a funky little place with great coffee.
I have been to this coffee shop several times and I know that all of their drinks are smooth and delicious. On this trip I went for the special, the Yin & Yang , which is dark chocolate swirled with white chocolate, so delicious!! You can’t beat their prices either, it was only $3 for a 16oz flavored latte (a medium or grande). My boyfriend sweetly accompanied me on my farmers market and coffee research expedition and he ordered an 8mm latte which was also really good…our two drinks only cost $5…. total. Umm, excuse me? Did I hear the cashier correctly? That is about what I pay for my usual drink at Starbucks or Seattle’s Best. Geesh, if this place was a chain and a little closer to where I live, you would find me there all the time! Great coffee, great prices and unbelievable atmosphere…is this the life?
If you are in the Marietta area, stop by the square, grab a cup of Cool Beans coffee, and take a stroll. In addition to the Saturday Farmers Markets, they also have First Friday Art Walks for the artsy types 🙂 If you can’t make it to Marietta, you can still try their delicious coffee, order some from their website.
