Coffee Plus Alcohol

It’s Friday, how happy are you? I know I’m excited.  What is better for a Friday afternoon than heading to your local happy hour to hang out with some friends and enjoy a few martinis?  

Whether you are spending the night in or going out here are some coffee inspired drinks for you to make or order from your bartender. Enjoy!

Coffee Plus Alcohol

Espresso Martini

1.5 oz vodka

2 oz cold espresso

1.5 oz Kahlua (or coffee flavored liqueur)

1 oz creme de cacao

-Shake all ingredients together in shaker filled 2/3 with ice. Pour into a chilled martini glass.

White Russian

1 oz vodka

2 oz milk

1 oz Kahlua (or coffee flavored liqueur)

-Shake all ingredients together in shaker filled 2/3 with ice. Pour into a chilled martini glass.

Raspberry Mochatini

3 oz vodka

2 oz cold espresso

1.5 oz dark cacao liqueur

1.5 oz raspberry liqueur

-Shake all ingredients together in shaker filled 2/3 with ice. Pour into a chilled martini glass.

Irish Coffee

3 oz  Irish whiskey (or any whiskey you have on hand)

12 oz strong coffee of your choice

1 Tbsp sugar

Whipped cream

Mix together coffee, whiskey, and sugar. Top with whipped cream.

**Above is the traditional way to have Irish coffee.  Also noted: Some people like to pour Irish Cream Liqueur into their coffee for extra flavor.

Coffee Stout– Had to do one for the beer lovers

For the really ambitious: Chocolate Espresso Martini

-Serves 6
1/2 cup Starbucks coffee liqueur (or Kahlua or any coffee liqueur)
1/2 cup Irish cream liqueur
3 tablespoons chocolate sauce
1/2 cup vanilla vodka (or regular vodka)

Chocolate cream:
1/3 cup whipping cream
2 tablespoons chocolate sauce
chocolate covered espresso beans

INSTRUCTIONS

To make the pre-mix, in a small contain combine the coffee liqueur,  Irish Cream, chocolate sauce, and vodka. Transfer to a pretty bottle with a pour spout. The re-mix can be made up to a week in advance if kept refrigerated.

To make the whipped cream, in a small bowl, combine the whipping cream and chocolate sauce and whip until very soft peaks are formed.

To make the cocktail, fill a cocktail shaker with ice and then measure and add 2 ounces (1/4 cup) of the pre-mix. Shake vigoursly for 10 seconds, then strain into a small martini glass. Top each cocktail with a bit of whipped cream and garnish with chocolate covered coffee beans.

BONUS Ideas:

-For the martinis, get coffee beans or chocolate covered coffee beans and drop one or two in each glass as a garnish

-Rim your martini glass with a little vodka and then dip them in sweetened cocoa powder or sugar

-Chill glasses ahead of time, drizzle with a chocolate sauce swirl and put immediately back into freezer until ready to use

-They now sell espresso flavored vodka for an even bigger coffee flavor in your drinks (Get it from: Van Gogh, Three Olives, Smirnoff, Seagrams)
