Coffee Protein Shakes
So Mark and I have been doing P90X2 and the nutrition guide that accompanies it. If you have noticed a lack of fun and fancy coffee drinks and tasty breads, scones and the like…that is why.
This nutrition plan, while slightly limiting has challenged me to look at coffee in a new way and develop some tasty new recipes to keep me going for the next three months.
I read food blogs everyday and I’ve found some great recipes that either fit in to the plan nicely or can be modified to work. If you are interested in those foods, check out my P90X2 Recipes board on Pinterest. My favorite breakfast has been variations of A Full Measure of Happiness‘s Green Monsters. They look scary but WOW are they good and do they ever (1) fill you up (2) they are so healthy!
So today I bring you the Mocha Cappuccino Green Monster and the Protein Mocha Latte!
Mocha Cappuccino Green Monster
—-It tastes like an iced mocha frapp, you really can’t taste the spinach. A single serving with one scoop of protein powder is about 350 calories and packed with vitamins. A double serving of protein is 120 more calories and keeps me full for hours!
- 1 cup milk
- 1-2 scoops Mocha Cappuccino (or you could use chocolate) protein powder
- 1 package instant coffee (I used VIA Columia)
- 1 tsp unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 handfuls baby spinach
- 1 very ripe banana
- 1/2 – 1 cup ice cubes
Place items in a blender in this order: milk, powders, spinach, sliced banana, ice. Blend for about 30 seconds or until smooth. Pour into a glass and enjoy!
Protein Mocha Latte
—-This makes a great snack and will keep you full between meals, plus its a nice pick-me-up. This drink tastes like a mocha with out all of the bad stuff!
- 1 scoop Mocha Cappuccino (or chocolate) protein powder
- 1 packet instant coffee
- 16 oz non-fat milk or water
